    Job Summary

    Nobel Women’s Initiative, led by eight women Nobel Peace Prize laureates, is seeking a Narrative Journalist / Storytelling Writer for a consultancy to develop a hybrid publication that highlights women activists across Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras.

    The role involves creating an engaging, cohesive narrative work based on interviews, research, and lived experiences, with significant creative autonomy and oversight from NWI.

    The project aims to produce a bookazine in both Spanish and English, in digital and print formats, to elevate women’s voices in peace-building and social justice.

    About Nobel Women’s Initiative

    Nobel Women’s Initiative is led by Nobel Peace Prize laureates Jody Williams, Shirin Ebadi, Tawakkol Karman, Leymah Gbowee, Rigoberta Menchú Tum, Narges Mohammadi, Oleksandra Matviichuk, and Maria Ressa.

    The organization works to amplify the voices of women peace activists worldwide, focusing on inclusive peace processes, especially in conflict-affected regions.

    Background of the Project

    In partnership with JASS, NWI has been supporting women activists through the project “Building the Collective Power of Women for Rights and Resources in Mesoamerica,” which spans Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras.

    The upcoming publication will be a hybrid bookazine, drawing on interviews with women activists, exploring their motivations, challenges, and aspirations.

    The Opportunity

    NWI invites experienced storytellers with a strong creative vision to lead the development of this publication.

    The selected candidate will craft the editorial concept, conduct trauma-informed interviews, and transform research into compelling narratives.

    The role encompasses the full creative process from concept to final delivery, with collaborative support and oversight.

    Role Description

    • Develop an original editorial concept and narrative approach for the hybrid publication.
    • Conduct research and in-depth, trauma-informed interviews with women activists, ensuring confidentiality and safety.
    • Transform interviews and research into engaging, human-centered stories.

    • Create thematic connections and narrative threads across multiple stories.
    • Lead the overall creative process from initial concept to final publication.
    • Coordinate additional creative expertise (illustration, design, editing, translation) as needed.
    • Work collaboratively with NWI, exercising strong editorial judgment within safeguarding and ethical storytelling principles.

    Requirements

    • Demonstrated experience in narrative journalism, literary non-fiction, long-form storytelling, or documentary storytelling.
    • Strong portfolio of published work.
    • Experience conducting sensitive, trauma-informed interviews.
    • Deep understanding of social, political, and cultural contexts in Latin America.

    • Ability to craft engaging, human-centered stories for diverse audiences.
    • Experience managing creative projects and collaborating with creative professionals.
    • Fluency in Spanish and English.
    • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

    Publication Parameters

    • Interviews with women activists from Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras.
    • Production in Spanish and English.
    • Final format: digital bookazine and print-ready file.

    • Creative autonomy with oversight from NWI, aligned with safeguarding and ethical principles.
    • Ownership of the publication retained by NWI.

    Budget

    Total available budget: up to USD 16,000.
    Applicants are encouraged to propose a realistic delivery approach within this budget, including any additional collaborators or creative expertise required.
