    Job Description

The African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF) has issued a call for African feminist consultants to support movement accompaniment and strengthening initiatives across the continent.

This opportunity aligns with AWDF’s long-term commitment to feminist flourishing and the advancement of women’s rights movements in Africa.

Consultants with expertise in feminist facilitation, digital security, governance, advocacy, and organisational resilience are encouraged to apply for one or more of the outlined assignments.

    About the Opportunity

AWDF is seeking experienced African feminist practitioners to lead specialised programmes that strengthen movements, deepen collective care, enhance security, and build long-term resilience.

    Each assignment requires:

    • Distinct thematic expertise
    • Tailored facilitation approaches
    • A clearly articulated methodology
    • Defined engagement timelines

This initiative aims to reinforce feminist organisations operating in complex political, digital, and social environments—particularly those in French and Portuguese-speaking contexts.

    Available Consultancy Assignments

Below are the seven thematic pathways for movement accompaniment:

    1. Collective Care as Political Strategy

    Duration: Two-day workshop

This assignment reframes care as a radical, systemic organisational practice rather than an individual responsibility. The workshop will:

    • Position wellbeing as a defence against backlash
    • Shift organisational cultures toward collective sustainability
    • Embed care into long-term feminist strategy

    2. Digital Security and Collective Safety

    Duration: Four-day in-person training

This training focuses on strengthening digital resilience within feminist movements. Key outcomes include:

    • Practical digital security and data protection skills
    • Development of Digital Security Protocols
    • Creation of Cyber Harassment Response Plans

    3. Crisis Response and Preparedness Training

    Duration: Four-day in-person training

This programme prepares organisations facing political, digital, or reputational threats by:

    • Strengthening feminist crisis response strategies
    • Enhancing communications preparedness
    • Building rapid-response coordination mechanisms

    4. Research and Advocacy Teach-In

    Duration: Five-day in-person retreat

Designed as a strategic convening space, this teach-in supports organisations to:

    • Translate lived experiences into political narratives
    • Strengthen advocacy grounded in feminist research
    • Shape collective futures through evidence-based action

This assignment particularly supports feminists operating in French and Portuguese-speaking contexts.

    5. Peer Learning Exchange Programme

    Duration: Six-month online programme

This initiative facilitates monthly peer-learning circles covering:

    • Feminist governance
    • Resource mobilisation
    • Digital security
    • Collective care
    • Advocacy strategies

    6. Resilience-Building Accompaniment

    Duration: Six-month online programme

This cyclical learning journey focuses on:

    • Advocacy in hostile spaces
    • Collective care strategies
    • Development of Organisational Resilience Action Plans

    7. Integrated Resource Directory and Toolkit

This consultancy involves developing a living and accessible ecosystem of:

    • Practical tools
    • Context-specific knowledge resources
    • Peer connection networks

The toolkit aims to strengthen operational resilience and strategic response capacity for French and Portuguese-speaking women’s rights movements.

    Application Requirements

Interested consultants must submit the following:

    1. Technical Expression of Interest (EOI)

    • Detailed methodology
    • Clear explanation of the selected pathway(s)
    • Proposed facilitation approach

    2. Financial Proposal

    • Clear cost breakdown
    • Budget aligned with scope and duration
