    Job Description

    The University of Glasgow is inviting applications for a Research Associate position within the School of Education, part of the College of Social Sciences and the Advanced Research Centre.

    This is a full-time, fixed-term role supporting the project “Towards the University of the Future”.

    Location: Glasgow, Scotland
    Salary: £41,064 – £46,049 per annum (Grade 7)
    Hours: Full-time, 35 hours/week
    Contract Duration: Until 31 July 2028

    About the Project

    The “Towards the University of the Future” project investigates how universities can evolve their institutional architectures, research cultures, and collaborative infrastructures to:

    • Enable and scale interdisciplinary research
    • Foster futures-facing research practices
    • Sustain innovation within higher education

    The project emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches, organisational change, and participatory research methods, exploring how higher education institutions can adapt to contemporary challenges in research and education.

    Role Overview

    The Research Associate will work under the supervision of Dr Lisa Bradley and is expected to:

    • Contribute to the design and delivery of research activities
    • Apply expertise in interdisciplinary studies, research cultures, and higher education futures
    • Use creative and participatory research methods as required
    • Support the formulation and submission of research publications and proposals
    • Assist in managing and directing aspects of the project, providing leadership in research areas where appropriate

    Candidate Requirements

    Essential Qualifications

    • PhD (Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12) in:
      • Education
      • Interdisciplinary Studies
      • Social Sciences
      • Organisational Studies
      • Science and Technology Studies
      • Related disciplines

    OR

    • Professional qualifications and experience equivalent to PhD level with relevant research/professional experience

    Skills and Experience

    • Emerging independence in a research or professional environment
    • Expertise in organisational change, interdisciplinary collaboration, and futures-focused research
    • Experience with participatory and creative research methods
    • Ability to contribute to publications, proposals, and project management
