    Job Description

    Overview

    The Africa CDC Public Health Emergency Management (PHEM) Fellowship 2026 – Cohort III is a six-month residential training program designed to strengthen Africa’s capacity to detect, prepare for, and respond to public health emergencies. It aims to build a skilled workforce capable of leading emergency preparedness and response systems across African Union Member States.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Coordinate responses to major public health threats such as disease outbreaks, pandemics, and environmental health emergencies.
    • Lead Public Health Emergency Operations Centers (PHEOCs).
    • Manage emergency preparedness programs within home countries.
    • Strengthen national public health emergency management systems.
    • Support emergency preparedness initiatives.

    Requirements

    • Mid-career public health professionals working within government institutions across Africa.
    • Citizens of an African Union Member State.
    • 50 years old or younger by 31 July 2026.
    • Postgraduate degree in public health or a related field.
    • Relevant experience in public health or emergency response programs.
    • Full-time government employee working in a public health institution.
    • Demonstrated ability to implement public health emergency management programs in their home countries.
    • Professionals in public health, medicine, One Health, health economics, health policy, animal health, environmental health, logistics and supply chain, and emergency operations management are encouraged to apply.
