Position: Community Health Educator
Location: Maiduguri, Borno State
Contract: Fixed term with possibility of extension
Role Summary
The Community Health Educator will prepare and deliver health education sessions to communities, promote hygiene and disease prevention, support MSF programs, and strengthen the link between MSF services and the population.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and deliver health education sessions on hygiene, disease prevention, and health services
- Inform patients and caretakers about health-related issues and MSF programs
- Conduct community health monitoring, including nutritional screening, vaccination checks, and tracking births and deaths
- Identify medical concerns and liaise with medical teams for referral
- Conduct home visits, defaulter tracing, and community mapping
- Participate in mass vaccination campaigns, seasonal outreach, and community-based surveillance
- Organize meetings and capacity-building sessions with community leaders and key groups
- Collect community feedback, rumors, and concerns to inform program adaptation
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s in Health Education, Diploma in Community Health, or a relevant degree
- Experience: Minimum 2 years in a similar role
- Languages: Fluent in English, Hausa, and Kanuri; knowledge of Shuwa, Fulani, or Ngamargu is a plus
- Competencies: Results-oriented, team player, flexible, committed, and able to manage stress
