    Job Description

    Overview

    The World Food Programme (WFP) is hiring an IT Solutions Architect to lead the technical design and implementation of digital solutions supporting WFP’s global operations. This is a fully remote position.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop detailed software architecture and data models for digital solutions.
    • Collaborate with the Product Manager and present IT solution proposals to the Architectural Board.
    • Ensure the technical design aligns with WFP standards, security protocols, and best practices.
    • Support the creation of high-level effort estimations for project planning and resource allocation.
    • Oversee the quality of IT solutions, ensuring compliance with WFP’s architecture, security, and usability standards.
    • Review and approve backlog tickets, ensuring clarity, completeness, and dependency management.
    • Create technical tickets and coordinate prioritization with the Product Manager.
    • Set up and maintain IT solution environments, ensuring stability and scalability.
    • Monitor and implement security tools proactively to prevent breaches and vulnerabilities.
    • Collaborate on continuous improvement (CI) and continuous deployment (CD) infrastructure to optimize workflows.
    • Lead and inspire development teams, fostering an open communication environment.
    • If necessary, act as Scrum Master, facilitating Scrum ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
    • Coach teams on Agile practices, helping optimize delivery flow and remove impediments.
    • Advocate for best practices in software development, architecture, and security.
    • Perform other related duties as required to support WFP’s digital transformation initiatives.

    Requirements

    Education

    • University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
    • Alternatively, a minimum of 8 years of equivalent professional experience in software development or digital solutions.

    Experience

    • At least 3 years of hands-on experience leading software development projects.
    • Proven track record of designing, planning, and leading complex IT solutions in a global environment.
    • Experience with web technologies including Python, Django, HTML, CSS, JavaScript.
    • Knowledge of Git, branch management, and DevOps practices like CI/CD.
    • Prior experience working within or collaborating with international organizations, preferably UN agencies, is highly desirable.

    Skills & Competencies

    • Deep understanding of software architecture principles and best practices.
    • Proficiency in developing high-quality, scalable IT solutions.
    • Strong knowledge of security protocols and monitoring tools.
    • Experience with Agile methodologies, particularly Scrum, and familiarity with Scrum Master responsibilities.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a remote setting.
    • Fluency in English (both written and spoken). Knowledge of additional UN languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, or Portuguese) is advantageous.
