Job Overview
This role is a strategic priority for Climate Home News as we seek to grow our subscription programme, which funds our independent journalism. As a Subscriptions, Marketing and Communications Officer, you will be pivotal in expanding our reader base, converting audiences into paying subscribers, and amplifying our impact globally.
Working fully remotely, you will act as a bridge between the editorial team and development team, with the creative freedom to experiment with strategies that will help us achieve our goals. Your work will directly contribute to the organisationโs sustainability and ability to deliver impactful climate journalism.
Key Responsibilities
Marketing & Communications
- Social Media Engagement: Manage and curate our LinkedIn account by creating engaging content, responding to followers, and interacting with key topics and stakeholders. Your goal is to increase brand recognition, expand our core audience, and drive traffic to our website.
- Partner Content Dissemination: Collaborate with partners to share content as agreed, ensuring maximum reach and visibility for Climate Home News.
- Audience Growth: Develop strategies to grow our readership, focusing on engaging climate-conscious audiences worldwide.
Newsletters & Email Campaigns
- Newsletter Management: Lead the production of Climate Weekly and event bulletins, working with colleagues to grow our mailing list, optimise open and click-through rates through A/B testing, and enhance layout and content.
- Content Optimization: Use data insights to refine newsletter content, aiming to generate more income through subscriptions and increased engagement.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) & AI Optimization
- SEO Strategies: Ensure all published content is optimized for search engines to improve visibility and search ranking.
- AI Platform Engagement: Maximize content discoverability on AI platforms by targeting relevant keywords and phrases to reach wider audiences.
Community Engagement & Stewardship
- Reader Relations: Build and nurture relationships with our audience by providing timely responses, creating a positive user experience, and developing a sense of community among readers.
- Feedback & Insights: Gather feedback through surveys, social media, and direct communication to improve content and engagement strategies.
Monitoring & Reporting
- KPIs & Analytics: Regularly track performance metrics such as website traffic, social media engagement, newsletter open rates, and subscription conversions.
- Impact Reporting: Produce reports for internal teams and donors, detailing the effectiveness of communication strategies and their contribution to growth.
Audience Insight & Data Analysis
- Data Utilization: Use tools like Google Analytics, Brevo, and social media insights to understand audience behavior and preferences.
- Audience Personas: Update and refine audience profiles to inform targeted campaigns and content strategies.
Events & Outreach
- Online & Offline Events: Collaborate with teams to develop and execute events such as webinars, panel discussions, and climate action events.
- Event Promotion: Use marketing channels to promote these events, increase attendance, and grow our community.
Impact Tracking & Dissemination
- Mentions & Citations: Monitor references to Climate Home News in other publications and platforms.
- Recognition & Awards: Track and share recognition, citations, and awards received by our work to bolster credibility and visibility.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Media Partnerships: Develop collaborations with media outlets to increase our reach, share content, and attract new subscribers.
- Website Optimization: Work with the technical team to improve user experience, engagement, and repeat visits, supporting subscription growth.
About You
Are you passionate about climate action and skilled in digital marketing and communications? Do you believe in the power of journalism to make a positive difference? If so, you might be the perfect fit for this role.
You should have:
- Experience in subscriptions, digital marketing, or sales, ideally within a media or nonprofit environment.
- A keen interest or background in climate communications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in social media platforms, SEO, email marketing tools, and analytics.
- Creativity, proactivity, and a data-informed approach.
- Ability to work independently and manage your time flexibly.
