    Overview

    The UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) is offering two consultancy opportunities to advance sustainable land management, climate security, and peacebuilding in fragile and conflict-affected settings. These roles are remote and open to qualified professionals worldwide.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conducting desk reviews and analytical papers on fragility financing and its link to land degradation, climate impacts, and security risks.
    • Identifying financing gaps and opportunities for land restoration and climate security.
    • Formulating policy recommendations for fragile countries.
    • Assisting in organizing meetings and consultations.
    • Supporting engagement with external experts and partners.

    Requirements

    • Master’s degree or equivalent in natural resource management, environmental policy, development economics, political science, or related fields.
    • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in natural resource governance, climate security, peacebuilding, or related disciplines.
    • Demonstrated experience in interdisciplinary research and policy analysis.
    • Knowledge of UN and intergovernmental processes related to land, climate, and peace.
    • Proven publication record and experience in non-scientific communication.
    • Fluency in English; knowledge of additional UN languages is an advantage.

    Overview

    This consultancy focuses on developing regional activity plans, designing pilot projects, and supporting the implementation of land restoration initiatives for the UNCCD’s Peace Forest Initiative (PFI) in fragile and conflict-affected areas. The goal is to strengthen PFI's operational framework and expand its impact.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Developing regional activity plans and project concepts aligned with the PFI framework.
    • Designing and facilitating regional meetings and stakeholder engagement.
    • Drafting concept notes and project proposals.
    • Assisting in the implementation and monitoring of pilot projects.
    • Organizing forums and conferences.
    • Preparing reports and policy briefs.
    • Collaborating with partners and stakeholders.

    Requirements

    • Master’s degree or equivalent in natural resource management, environmental policy, international development, or related fields.
    • At least 5 years of experience in land degradation, climate resilience, peacebuilding, or related disciplines.
    • Solid understanding of sustainable land and water management, conflict-sensitive approaches, and policy development.
    • Knowledge of UNCCD processes and international environmental governance.
    • Proven ability to develop project proposals and organize high-level meetings.
    • Excellent communication skills in English; additional UN languages are an advantage.
