
NYU: Fully Funded Summer Workshop for U.S. College Journalists (June 8–14, 2026)
The Ed Bradley Journalism Fellowship 2026 at New York University’s Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute is now accepting applications for its prestigious summer workshop taking place from June 8–14, 2026 in New York City.
Organized in partnership with the Dow Jones News Fund, this fully funded, one-week intensive journalism training program brings together 20 outstanding U.S. college students for immersive mentorship, newsroom exposure, and hands-on multimedia reporting experience.
The deadline to apply is March 15, 2026.
This fellowship is designed to address one of the most pressing equity gaps in American journalism: the under-representation of African-American males in newsrooms across the country.
Named in honor of legendary journalist Ed Bradley, the fellowship aims to:
Identify and address the under-representation of Black men in journalism
Strengthen pathways into newsrooms
Build equitable representation in media
Cultivate diverse allies committed to newsroom equity
While the program’s mission centers on increasing representation of Black males in journalism, the fellowship welcomes all U.S. college students who appreciate and support this mission, regardless of identity or background.
The program emphasizes the importance of diverse allies in effecting meaningful and lasting structural change in media institutions.

Participants will live in NYU dorms in Manhattan’s East Village during the workshop.

Participants will receive hands-on instruction in:
Reporting
News writing
Multimedia journalism
Story pitching
Interviewing techniques
Editorial development
Students will become “Backpack Reporters,” developing and producing their own stories.
Participants will:
Produce original multimedia stories
Publish their work on the program’s website and social media channels
Receive professional editorial feedback
Students will:
Visit leading newsrooms in New York City
Build relationships with top journalists
Gain mentorship from industry leaders
Expand their professional network through the Dow Jones News Fund
Participants will:
Live in NYU dormitories
Experience New York City journalism culture
Engage in collaborative learning with a competitive national cohort
