About the Samuel Fellows in Belonging Programme

The Samuel Fellows in Belonging is more than a research opportunity—it is a global catalyst for social connection and inclusive change.

Designed for students, recent graduates, and individuals with lived experience, the programme creates space for immersive learning, applied research, and real-world impact.

Through an 8-month structured Fellowship, participants undertake a defined research project in partnership with a leading organisation working to address belonging, community resilience, and social justice issues.

    As a Fellow, You Will:

    • Work alongside leading global partner organisations exploring belonging, social justice, and community-building
    • Conduct applied research that influences policy, education, health, urban design, and community resilience
    • Engage in thought leadership and advocacy that shapes public narratives

    • Receive mentorship, professional development, and access to a global network of changemakers
    • Produce a final public-facing output (such as a report, essay, briefing, or equivalent creative output)

The Fellowship is conducted entirely remotely, enabling participation from anywhere in the world.

    Fellowship Structure and Financial Support

    What Is the Fellowship Grant?

Selected Fellows receive a Fellowship grant (educational award) composed of two components:

    Living Support Stipend
To help cover living expenses during the Fellowship period (e.g., rent, food, utilities, childcare).

To support reasonable research-related costs such as:

    • Travel (if required)
    • Transcription services
    • Accessibility supports
    • Venue hire for community discussions
    • Research materials
    • Participant honoraria (in line with policy)
    • Dissemination costs

The total grant value and payment schedule will be shared with successful candidates before acceptance.

      • Start of Fellowship (upon agreement of deliverables and budget plan)
      • Two mid-point check-ins

This milestone-based structure ensures educational integrity and sustained support throughout the 8-month programme.
