    Job Description

    The Global Methane Hub (GMH) is seeking a strategic and experienced Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) Lead to oversee and strengthen its global evidence and learning ecosystem. This is a full-time, globally remote position reporting to the Director of Development and Impact and managing the MEL team.

    The salary range for U.S.-based candidates is $188,696 – $235,870, with geographic differentials applied based on location. Candidates must have the legal right to work in the country from which they apply. The contract is regular, full-time (40 hours per week), exempt status.     Organisational Background

    The Global Methane Hub represents the first coordinated philanthropic initiative dedicated exclusively to methane mitigation. Its work targets the energy, agricultural, and waste sectors, which together account for 96% of human-caused methane emissions.

    GMH advances its mission through three interconnected functions:

    • Regranting: Providing financial support to public-benefit organisations directly mitigating methane
    • Convening: Aligning governments, civil society, researchers, and funders to accelerate coordinated action
    • Advising: Serving as a trusted knowledge partner on methane strategies, data, and field-building

    While global in scope, GMH prioritises rapid, actionable progress through engagement with sub-national actors and local communities. Headquartered in Santiago, Chile, its team spans six continents.

    Purpose of the Role

    The MEL Lead serves as the strategic anchor for evidence-based decision-making across GMH. This position:

    • Oversees the organisation’s full MEL ecosystem
    • Ensures quantitative and qualitative evidence informs strategy and communications
    • Guides organisational learning and adaptive management
    • Strengthens impact measurement across an expanding portfolio

    The role establishes a balanced MEL system in which monitoring, evaluation, and learning receive focused leadership and capacity.

    Primary Responsibilities

    MEL Strategy, Systems & Frameworks

    The MEL Lead will:

    • Lead the development and evolution of GMH’s integrated MEL strategy
    • Maintain organisation-wide frameworks, KPIs, and measurement approaches
    • Build annual MEL plans and reporting calendars
    • Advise leadership on theory of change and decision-making frameworks
    • Develop systems for tracking co-funding and aligned investments
    • Integrate AI, automation, and modelling tools to enhance monitoring and predictive insights
    • Guide the development of an externally facing grant database aligned with transparency and impact goals
    • Ensure MEL practices centre equity, systems thinking, context sensitivity, and Global South priorities

    Leadership of Monitoring & Evaluation

    The MEL Lead will:

    • Ensure strong data governance, quality, and KPI consistency
    • Establish co-benefit modelling frameworks to estimate contributions to public health, economic growth, food security, and conservation
    • Oversee portfolio- and organisation-level evaluations
    • Commission and manage third-party evaluations
    • Translate findings into actionable strategic recommendations
    • Champion responsible integration of AI into analytics and impact systems

    Knowledge Management

    Responsibilities include:

    • Designing and maintaining GMH’s knowledge management system
    • Integrating evaluation findings, grantee feedback, and learning insights
    • Leading annual learning reports and year-in-review processes

    Organisational Learning & Culture

    The MEL Lead will:

    • Guide GMH’s learning agenda
    • Align structured reflections with strategic decision timelines
    • Foster a culture of curiosity, inquiry, and constructive challenge
    • Support innovation and programme adaptation

    Impact Narrative & Communication

    The role includes:

    • Building and stewarding GMH’s impact narrative
    • Partnering with Development and Communications teams to translate insights into compelling storytelling
    • Supporting donor and funder reporting with evidence-based messaging

    Grantee Feedback Systems

    In partnership with the Grants Lead, the MEL Lead will:

    • Launch periodic grantee perception surveys
    • Co-create feedback mechanisms for shared reflection
    • Ensure feedback informs operations and partnership strategies

    Team Leadership

    The MEL Lead will:

    • Manage and coach the MEL team
    • Set strategic priorities and ensure alignment with organisational goals
    • Represent MEL in leadership discussions
    • Promote cross-functional collaboration and professional growth

    Candidate Profile

    Required Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred (MEL, development, social sciences, statistics, or related fields)
    • Minimum 8+ years progressive MEL experience
    • At least 5 years in senior MEL leadership roles
    • Proven track record designing MEL systems for complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives
    • Experience in climate, environmental, philanthropy, or international development sectors
    • Deep expertise in quantitative and qualitative methodologies
    • Experience integrating AI, automation, and predictive analytics into MEL systems
    • Prior team management experience
    • Strong knowledge management and systems-thinking capabilities
    • Experience co-creating grantee-facing MEL systems

    Technical & Analytical Skills

    • Data visualisation tools (e.g., Tableau or similar platforms)
    • Advanced Excel or Google Sheets proficiency
    • Strong project management across multiple workstreams
    • Ability to translate complex datasets into actionable insights
    • Strong presentation skills (PowerPoint/Google Slides)

    Additional Information
