    Job Description

    The Youth Co:Lab National Innovation Challenge 2026 is a flagship youth innovation platform advancing sustainable entrepreneurship in India. Launched in India in 2019 by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in collaboration with the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), the initiative empowers young entrepreneurs to accelerate progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

    The 2026 edition is organised in collaboration with T-Hub and focuses on the theme of Responsible Consumption, aligned with the Government of India’s Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment). This marks the 8th edition of the National Innovation Challenge in India.

    About Youth Co:Lab

    Originally co-created in 2017 by UNDP and the Citi Foundation, Youth Co:Lab aims to build a common regional agenda across Asia-Pacific countries to empower youth leadership, social innovation, and entrepreneurship.

    In India, the platform has conducted seven national innovation challenges, hosting dialogues, workshops, mentorship engagements, and investment-readiness programmes. It provides seed grants and connects early-stage founders with mentors, investors, and peers to transform ideas into scalable ventures.

    2026 Challenge Theme: Responsible Consumption

    The 2026 challenge supports innovations that promote sustainable lifestyles and environmental responsibility. Startups must align with one of the following sub-themes:

    1. Sustainable Textiles and Fashion

    Focuses on reducing the environmental and social footprint of the fashion and textile industry.

    Examples:

    • Low-impact fibres and eco-friendly dyeing processes
    • Circular garment design and repair models
    • Waste reduction and textile reuse systems
    • Transparent and ethical supply chains

    2. Circular Economy Innovations

    Supports solutions that extend product life cycles and reduce waste across industries.

    Examples:

    • Electronic waste and plastic alternative solutions
    • Upcycling, composting, and zero-waste products
    • Take-back systems and materials recovery
    • Product-as-a-service and remanufacturing models

    3. Sustainable Food Systems and Water Conservation

    Targets innovations that improve agricultural sustainability and water-use efficiency.

    Examples:

    • Addressing inefficiencies in food supply chains
    • Water-saving technologies and watershed management
    • Resource-efficient agricultural production
    • Post-harvest loss reduction solutions

    Eligibility Criteria

    Applicants must meet the following requirements:

    • Youth-led startups with founders aged 15–29 years
    • Age limit extended to 35 years for:
      • Women
      • Persons with Disabilities (PwDs)
      • LGBTIQA+ individuals
      • Tribal entrepreneurs
      • Entrepreneurs from minority communities
    • NGOs meeting the above age criteria are eligible
    • Solutions must align with Responsible Consumption themes

    The programme strongly encourages applications from:

    • Women-led teams
    • Individuals from diverse SOGIE backgrounds
    • Tribal and Dalit youth
    • Individuals from marginalised castes and religious minorities
    • Founders developing viable and scalable solutions

    Programme Benefits

    Selected startups gain access to structured growth opportunities:

    National Springboard Programme

    • 40–50 startups selected
    • 6–8 week virtual capacity-building journey
    • Workshops on business fundamentals, impact measurement, ESG readiness, fundraising, leadership, and storytelling
    • Mentorship and peer learning

    National Innovation Dialogue (NID)

    • Startups present solutions to ecosystem leaders, investors, and policymakers
    • Opportunity for national exposure and partnership building

    Regional Immersion & Bootcamp

    • Top 20 startups invited to a 5-day in-person immersion at T-Hub, Hyderabad
    • Intensive mentoring, scaling strategy development, and investor readiness preparation

    Seed Support

    • Top 6 startups awarded seed grants ranging from INR 2.2–3.5 lakhs

    Ecosystem Exposure

    • National recognition
    • Access to mentors, investors, corporates, and policy stakeholders
    • Continued engagement opportunities within India’s innovation ecosystem
