Overview
CARE International is seeking an Agriculture Officer to lead agricultural project activities, supporting farmers to optimize production and enhance food security using a participatory approach. The role involves applying principles of regenerative agriculture and agroecology.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate agricultural activities and field budgets.
- Develop activity plans aligned with project goals.
- Schedule and implement agricultural interventions.
- Mobilize farmers for production, post-harvest loss reduction, and marketing.
- Provide training in regenerative agriculture, agroecology, and climate-resilient practices.
- Conduct farmer group assessments and capacity building.
- Develop and deliver training materials for farmer groups.
- Facilitate training on farming as a business, post-harvest handling, and value addition.
- Support the establishment of functional governance and operational committees for farmer groups.
- Monitor and mentor farmer group performance.
- Conduct crop performance monitoring and field data collection.
- Provide on-site technical advisory services.
- Contribute to workplans and progress reports.
- Manage relationships with local government ministries, NGOs, and private sector actors.
- Share project plans and progress updates with relevant authorities.
- Liaise with agricultural and veterinary departments for field support.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Soil Science, Horticulture, or related fields. Advanced degrees preferred.
- Minimum of 3–4 years in agribusiness, agricultural production, produce marketing, or market linkages.
- Knowledge of Zimbabwe’s agricultural production context and marketing challenges.
- Experience supporting small-scale farmers in improving produce quality, post-harvest handling, collective marketing, and market access.
- Community mobilization and training experience in agriculture.
- Strong technical knowledge of agricultural production, including produce quality enhancement.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and MS Office Project.
- Commitment to gender and youth inclusion in food security programming.
- Ability to work collaboratively with communities and stakeholders.
