MarAlliance is seeking an experienced, proactive, and digitally savvy Communications & Marketing Coordinator.
This full-time, remote role involves leading storytelling, digital communications, and marketing initiatives that elevate the organization’s conservation efforts, research, and expedition outcomes.
The Coordinator will translate scientific research and community impacts into compelling narratives to build trust, grow donor support, and enhance MarAlliance’s global profile.
The position reports directly to the Executive Director and collaborates with program teams, external contractors, and partner organizations to ensure consistent messaging and organizational visibility. The role involves managing digital and print materials, digital fundraising campaigns, media relations, and online community engagement.
Location & Working Arrangement
- Location: Remote (Home-based)
- Time Zone: PST–EST with availability to coordinate across the Americas and occasional interactions with European partners
- Travel: Up to 10% domestic and international travel may be required
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications Leadership
- Develop and implement MarAlliance’s global communications strategy
- Support region-specific communication approaches in Mexico, Belize, Honduras, Panama, and other locations
- Ensure consistent messaging, branding, and storytelling across all platforms and regions
- Contribute to long-term visibility, advocacy, and partnership strategies
Donor-Driven Storytelling & Science Interpretation
- Translate marine science, research, and conservation outcomes into engaging narratives for donors and partners
- Develop impact stories featuring species, sites, and measurable conservation results
- Produce content for campaigns, newsletters, blogs, social media, and websites
- Write SEO-optimized articles and impact stories for online platforms
Digital Fundraising & Campaigns
- Support the design and execution of digital fundraising campaigns, appeals, and donor journeys
- Draft compelling campaign emails, landing pages, social media content, and stewardship materials
- Create storytelling sequences aligned with expeditions, projects, and milestones
- Collaborate on donor visibility initiatives and co-branded materials with partners
Science & Brand Communications
- Work with scientists and community researchers to interpret research outputs into accessible communication materials
- Design and oversee production of infographics, reports, presentations, and promotional materials
- Guide visual branding, content standards, and layout design (using Canva and Adobe Creative Suite)
- Manage photo and video archives, ensuring proper permissions and credits
Digital & Media Engagement
- Maintain and update website content, social media platforms, and email newsletters
- Lead creation and distribution of newsletters via Mailchimp or Salesforce systems
- Monitor trends, manage online communities, and identify outreach opportunities
- Manage media relations, press, and external communication partnerships
Monitoring & Systems Management
- Track communication performance using analytics tools (Google Analytics, social insights)
- Ensure quality control, accuracy, and ethical standards in storytelling
- Maintain content calendars, asset libraries, and reporting systems (e.g., Monday.com)
- Prepare regular internal performance reports
Cross-Team Support
- Provide communications support for expeditions, fundraising campaigns, events, and advocacy initiatives
- Assist other teams with routine and urgent communication needs
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or related field
- Minimum of 5+ years experience in digital communications and content production
- Excellent writing, editing, and content creation skills
- CRM experience with Salesforce or similar platforms
- Ability to communicate complex scientific information clearly and ethically
- Proven expertise in SEO, social media, email marketing, and digital storytelling
- Design skills (Canva required; Adobe assets advantageous)
- Strong interest in marine conservation and working in multicultural environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in fundraising, advocacy, or awareness campaigns
- Multimedia production and video editing skills
- Background in conservation NGOs or international organizations
- Environmental or marine science background
- Fluency in Spanish; Portuguese and/or French is a plus
