The Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF) is offering a full-time Communications Internship within its Geneva-based Communications team. This six-month opportunity is designed for a motivated and creative professional seeking hands-on experience in strategic communications within an international organization dedicated to preventing radicalisation and violent extremism.
Reporting to the Communications Specialist, the intern will join a small, dynamic team responsible for strengthening GCERF’s global visibility and supporting donor engagement and fundraising efforts. The role provides direct exposure to international development communications, digital storytelling, and knowledge dissemination.
Scope of the Role
The Communications Intern will:
- Support the implementation of GCERF’s communications strategy
- Collaborate with different units to gather programmatic information
- Translate complex technical content into engaging and accessible messaging
- Contribute to enhancing organizational visibility and impact
This role requires initiative, creativity, and strong coordination skills.
Key Responsibilities
• Digital Communications
The intern will play an active role in strengthening GCERF’s online presence by:
- Developing compelling social media content (posts, visuals, infographics, short videos)
- Drafting clear and engaging captions aligned with strategic priorities
- Supporting the management and updating of the GCERF website
- Ensuring digital content remains timely, accurate, and audience-focused
• Creativity and Design
The intern will assist in producing high-quality external and donor-facing materials, including:
- Country profiles
- Factsheets
- Maps and data visualizations
- Knowledge products
- Newsletters
- Briefing documents and reports
This requires strong design sensibility and proficiency in tools such as Canva and WordPress. Experience with graphic design or video editing tools is considered an advantage.
• Success Stories and Impact Narratives
To highlight programmatic results, the intern will:
- Collect success stories from quarterly reports
- Edit and structure impact narratives
- Transform data into compelling human-centered stories
- Ensure consistency in tone and messaging
• General Support
- Provide day-to-day communications assistance as required
- Support content organization and dissemination
- Assist in cross-team coordination when necessary
Candidate Profile and Qualifications
GCERF seeks candidates who demonstrate both academic excellence and practical communications skills.
Education
- Master’s degree in:
- International Affairs
- International Relations
- Development Studies
- Business or Public Administration
- Peacebuilding or Conflict Transformation
- Or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Professional Experience
Candidates should demonstrate:
- Experience managing social media or websites for an international or non-profit organization (including academic or volunteer work)
- Experience designing, drafting, and disseminating communications materials
- Strong understanding of digital engagement strategies
- High attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of social media platforms
- Proficiency in Canva
- Familiarity with WordPress
- Ideally, experience with graphic design and video editing tools
Thematic Interest
- Demonstrated interest or experience in preventing radicalisation and violent extremism is an asset
Language Requirements
- Native-level fluency in English (oral and written)
- French and/or Arabic is desirable

Work Environment and Organizational Commitment
GCERF is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, and hires globally. Swiss residency or work eligibility is not required.

Contract Details
- Duration: 6 months
