Currently, the institute is hiring for three key roles: a Policy & Food Systems Specialist, an Aquatic Animal Alliance Community Specialist, and a Chief Program Officer.

    Policy & Food Systems Specialist

    Job Summary

    Job Title: Policy & Food Systems Specialist
    Location: Fully remote (preferably aligned with US EST or CET time zones)

    Salary: USD $45,000 – $49,999 per year
    Contract Type: Full-time, permanent

    About the Role

    The Policy & Food Systems Specialist plays a vital role in embedding aquatic animal welfare into influential policy, industry standards, and sustainability frameworks. Reporting directly to the Head of Fisheries Welfare, this position supports high-quality policy engagement, evidence-based advocacy, and cross-program coordination.

    The specialist will translate technical knowledge into compelling policy inputs for international bodies, coalitions, and industry platforms, helping shape a global movement toward humane treatment of aquatic animals.

    Responsibilities

    • Support policy submissions and consultations with EU institutions, UN processes, and priority country-level policies, including the UK and EU Member States.
    • Contribute to advisory councils, working groups, coalitions, and networks through drafting inputs and reviewing documents.
    • Develop policy-related materials linking aquatic animal welfare to climate, biodiversity, and food security.

    • Assist with advocacy efforts by providing feedback on standards, reports, and joint statements.
    • Conduct targeted research to support policy positions and advocacy strategies.
    • Maintain tracking systems for policy processes, consultations, and advocacy outcomes.
    • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure policy work aligns with ALI’s strategic priorities.

    Qualifications

    • Strong organizational, analytical, and writing skills.
    • Experience in policy processes, advocacy, or animal welfare.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail.

    • Familiarity with international policy frameworks (EU, UN) is a plus.
    • Fluency in English; proficiency in additional languages highly valued.
    • Willingness to work across EST or CET time zones.

    Aquatic Animal Alliance (AAA) Community Specialist

    Job Title: Aquatic Animal Alliance (AAA) Community Specialist
    Location: Fully remote (aligned with US EST preferred)

    About the Role

    The AAA Community Specialist is the heartbeat of ALI’s global coalition, overseeing day-to-day member engagement, working group facilitation, and knowledge management.

    Responsible for ensuring the alliance’s activities are strategic, inclusive, and impactful, the specialist will manage digital platforms like the Resource Hub, coordinate collaboration efforts, and support alliance initiatives. This role fosters a vibrant community of over 185 organizations across 75+ countries dedicated to advancing aquatic animal welfare.

    Responsibilities

    • Serve as the main contact point for AAA members, maintaining regular communication to support engagement and responsiveness.
    • Facilitate working groups focused on priority themes, regions, or strategies.
    • Organize, upload, and curate resources on the Alliance’s online Resource Hub, ensuring accessibility and relevance.

    • Support the execution of alliance campaigns and initiatives, tracking participation and milestones.
    • Collect and organize data on member engagement and activity outcomes to inform strategic decisions.
    • Collaborate closely with ALI teams and external partners to ensure smooth coordination.
    • Represent ALI externally when delegated, maintaining professionalism and alignment with organizational values.

    Qualifications

    • Experience in community coordination, coalition building, or advocacy.
    • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and digital platform management skills.
    • Ability to facilitate virtual meetings and manage online resources effectively.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; additional languages advantageous.
    • Comfortable working independently within a remote environment.
    • Passionate about animal advocacy, environmental issues, or global coalition work.

    Chief Program Officer (CPO)

    Salary: USD $85,000 – $105,000 (negotiable)
    Contract Type: Full-time, executive leadership

    About the Role

    The Chief Program Officer (CPO) is a senior leadership position responsible for ensuring ALI’s programs operate effectively and align with strategic priorities.

    Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the CPO will own the execution of key initiatives, facilitate cross-team collaboration, and ensure organizational goals are achieved. This role is critical in translating ALI’s mission into measurable outcomes, managing program delivery, and maintaining external relationships that advance the institute’s impact.

    Responsibilities

    • Oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of ALI’s programs and initiatives.
    • Support the Managing Director in strategic planning, external engagement, and organizational development.
    • Coordinate across program teams to ensure alignment, reduce duplication, and maximize impact.

    • Lead project management efforts, implementing standards and process improvements.
    • Facilitate internal and external communication, ensuring timely updates and stakeholder engagement.
    • Support the development of briefs, presentations, and reports for external audiences, including funders and partners.
    • Proactively identify risks, opportunities, and process bottlenecks, proposing solutions to ensure smooth operations.

    Qualifications

    • Extensive experience in program management, strategic planning, or executive leadership.
    • Demonstrated ability to coordinate complex projects and teams in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

    • Experience supporting senior leadership and managing organizational change.
    • Knowledge of animal advocacy, environmental policy, or related sectors preferred.
    • Ability to work effectively across different time zones, especially North America.
