    The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting ACLED’s media outreach efforts and digital communications strategies, with a particular focus on Latin America, the Caribbean, and Asia-Pacific regions.

    The Role

    The Associate Media and Digital Communications Officer will work closely with the Media Relations Manager and social media teams to craft compelling content, coordinate outreach activities, monitor media coverage, and produce multimedia content.

    This role requires excellent writing skills, a keen eye for detail, and an understanding of the media landscape, especially within the regions of focus.


    Key Responsibilities

    Media Relations Support

    • Media Outreach and Relationship Building: Develop media contacts and deepen understanding of regional media landscapes in Latin America, the Caribbean, and Asia-Pacific. Establish and nurture relationships with journalists, media outlets, and sector-specific contacts.
    • Content Creation: Draft press releases, media advisories, quotes, background materials, and responses to media inquiries under the guidance of the Media Relations Manager.

    • Media Monitoring: Maintain updated media lists, journalist databases, and monitoring systems. Track media coverage and compile initial analysis and key performance indicators (KPIs).
    • Media Engagement: Support responses to media requests, coordinate interviews, and prepare media briefing materials, including talking points and messaging documents.
    • Media Training: Assist with media training sessions to prepare staff for interviews and public engagements.

    Digital Communications Support

    • Content Coordination: Collaborate with social media teams to ensure messaging consistency across all platforms.
    • Content Development: Assist in designing and producing digital content such as social media posts, graphics, short videos, and multimedia assets tailored for online dissemination.

    • Brand Consistency: Ensure all digital content aligns with ACLED’s branding, tone, and messaging standards.
    • Content Scheduling: Help schedule and publish content across various channels, ensuring timely and relevant engagement.

    Podcasts, Webinars, and Multimedia

    • Event Support: Assist in planning, recording, and editing podcasts and webinars, including guest coordination, scripting, and research.
    • Video Content: Provide basic support in video production, including editing short clips, news segments, or promotional videos.
    • Content Preparation: Support the development of scripts, research briefs, and multimedia content for various outreach activities.

    General Responsibilities

    • Content Production: Generate timely and relevant content aligned with current news cycles and ACLED’s data releases.
    • Media Training Logistics: Support planning and execution of media training sessions.

    • Event Participation: Contribute to ACLED’s participation in conferences, webinars, and external events, including occasional travel if required.
    • Collaboration: Work effectively within a remote team, coordinating with colleagues across different regions and sectors.

    Skills and Experience

    ACLED seeks candidates with a blend of skills and experience that demonstrate their capacity to excel in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

    Essential Skills and Qualifications

    • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, media studies, political science, or a related field.
    • Experience: 2-4 years of professional experience in media relations, digital communications, journalism, or similar roles.
    • Writing and Editing Skills: Exceptional ability to craft clear, engaging, and accurate content suitable for diverse audiences.

    • Media Landscape Knowledge: Understanding of media operations, including Tier 1 outlets, regional media, and sector-specific outlets (Insurance and Risk sectors are a plus).
    • Digital Content Creation: Demonstrated experience in designing social media posts, graphics, short videos, or multimedia content.
    • Technical Skills: Familiarity with audio/video editing tools such as Audacity, Adobe Premiere, Descript, or equivalent.

    • Analytical Skills: Ability to monitor media coverage, analyze engagement metrics, and produce reports.
    • Languages: Fluent in written and spoken English and Spanish; additional languages are advantageous.
    • Interpersonal Skills: Strong collaboration skills, comfort working with diverse teams and external stakeholders.
    • Attention to Detail: Precision in content creation, monitoring, and reporting.

    Desirable Skills and Qualifications

    • Sector Knowledge: Familiarity with media outlets covering insurance, risk, or conflict zones.
    • Additional Languages: Fluency in other languages relevant to the regions of focus.
    • Project Management: Experience with tools like ASANA or similar project management platforms.

    • Experience with Campaigns: Background supporting campaigns, event coordination, or cross-team content initiatives.
    • SEO and Analytics: Basic understanding of SEO, digital analytics, and content optimization strategies.

    • Experience in High-Pressure Environments: Proven ability to handle multiple priorities in fast-paced settings.
    • Academic or Policy Environment Experience: Familiarity with data-driven, academic, or policy-focused communications.
