Applications are now open for the HealthyDiets4Africa Agribusiness Accelerator Program (Cohort III), an initiative designed to support youth and women innovators working to strengthen food systems across Africa. The program focuses on early-stage agribusiness entrepreneurs who are developing solutions to improve food security, nutrition, and sustainability.
By combining training, mentorship, and market access opportunities, the accelerator helps participants transform their ideas into scalable and investment-ready ventures.
The HealthyDiets4Africa Agribusiness Accelerator is part of a broader effort to promote innovation in agriculture and food systems across the continent. It targets young innovators and women entrepreneurs who are building solutions that address challenges in food production, processing, distribution, and nutrition.
The program provides a structured environment where participants can refine their ideas, strengthen their business models, and gain practical knowledge on how to grow and sustain their ventures. Through both virtual and in-person components, participants are exposed to real-world insights and industry expertise.
Across Africa, food systems continue to face significant challenges, including limited access to nutritious food, inefficiencies in value chains, and the impacts of climate change. At the same time, there is growing recognition of the role that young people and women can play in driving innovation in agriculture.
The HealthyDiets4Africa Agribusiness Accelerator addresses this gap by providing targeted support to early-stage innovators. By equipping participants with the skills, networks, and visibility they need, the program helps turn promising ideas into practical solutions that can create lasting impact.
One of the key strengths of the program is its focus on practical support and capacity building.
Participants will take part in structured training sessions covering essential areas such as business development, value chain analysis, and market positioning. These sessions are designed to help innovators better understand how to build viable and competitive agribusinesses.
In addition to training, participants will receive mentorship from experienced professionals and industry experts. This guidance helps them refine their ideas, address challenges, and make informed decisions about scaling their ventures.
The program also provides opportunities for market exposure. Selected participants may showcase their innovations at trade fairs, exhibitions, and networking events, allowing them to connect with potential partners, customers, and investors.
Financial support is another important benefit. Top-performing participants will be eligible for awards from a total prize pool of up to $5,000. While modest, this funding can help early-stage innovators test or expand their solutions. More importantly, the program also helps participants position themselves to access additional funding and investment opportunities beyond the accelerator.
The accelerator is open to individuals and teams who meet the following criteria:
Applicants should have a clear idea, prototype, or early-stage business that demonstrates potential for growth and impact. The program is particularly interested in solutions that can be scaled and contribute to improving food systems.
The program welcomes a wide range of agribusiness and food system innovations. These may include:
Projects may focus on crops, livestock, or nutrition-related innovations, as long as they contribute to healthier and more sustainable food systems.
Applicants are required to complete an online application form and submit a short pitch, which may be in video or audio format. The pitch should clearly explain the problem being addressed, the proposed solution, and its potential impact.
Interested applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible, as the selection process is competitive. You can learn more and apply on the HealthyDiets4Africa Project
