The internationally recognized Shelter City initiative provides temporary relocation for human rights defenders facing threats because of their peaceful activism. During the programme, participants receive tailored support, strengthen their professional networks, and develop new strategies to continue advancing human rights in their home countries.

About the Shelter City Programme

The Spring 2027 Shelter City Programme will run from:

March to May 2027

Participants will stay in one of 14 participating cities across the Netherlands for approximately three months.
