Eligibility

• Apply to a Master’s program at the University of Guelph for Fall 2026
• Have a minimum first-class (A-) academic average
• Align research with the mission of the Arrell Food Institute including:
  • Producing healthier and more nutritious food
  • Supporting economic growth
  • Reducing environmental and social impacts of food systems
• Applicants may request to defer the scholarship under exceptional circumstances, subject to approval.

Benefits

• $50,000 per year
• Duration: Up to 2 years (6 semesters)
• Paid in three equal installments per year
• Possibility of a one-semester extension (subject to approval)

This funding covers tuition and contributes significantly to living expenses, making it one of the most competitive graduate scholarships in Canada.

How to Apply

Applicants must complete two applications:

Step 1: Apply to a Graduate Program

• Submit a complete application to an eligible graduate program at the University of Guelph
• Ensure research proposal aligns with Arrell’s mission (e.g., food security, plant science, nutrition)
• Provide all required documents, which may vary by program
• International students should consult credential equivalency guidelines

Step 2: Submit the Arrell Scholarship Application

• Statement of research interests (max. 2 pages + 1 page citations)
• Current CV
• Unofficial transcripts
• Reference letter from proposed supervisor (sent directly via email)
