Overview
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is seeking a Junior Communication Specialist for a Consultant or Personal Services Agreement (PSA) contract. This role supports FAO’s Office for Corporate Communication (OCC) and is part of a roster-based selection process for potential assignments over the next three years.
Key Responsibilities
- Content Research & Development: Research FAO technical materials, summarize complex information, draft key messages, and conduct photo/media research.
- Writing & Editing: Draft articles, feature stories, newsletters, announcements, talking points, and scripts for digital campaigns; write captions and keyword metadata.
- Multimedia & Digital Content: Contribute to graphics, videos, animations, podcasts, and campaigns; support website and newsletter content management; assist with social media.
- Coordination & Stakeholder Support: Facilitate cross-team communication, support media monitoring and stakeholder analysis, provide guidance on OCC processes, and backstop communication officers.
Requirements
- For Consultants: Advanced university degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Videography, or related field, OR a Bachelor’s degree plus two additional years of relevant experience.
- For PSA Contracts: University degree in a relevant field.
- At least 1 year of relevant experience.
- Working knowledge (Level C) of English.
- Academic credentials must be recognized by institutions listed in the World Higher Education Database (WHED).
- Preferred qualifications include strong editing and content creation skills, experience in caption writing and keywording, proficiency in digital storytelling, awareness of communication ethics, attention to detail, ability to work independently, and excellent communication skills.
- FAO core competencies include results focus, teamwork, communication, relationship building, and knowledge sharing.
