Overview
This opportunity is a fully remote consultancy role for researchers, digital policy experts, or civic technology specialists focusing on digital sovereignty, alternative technologies, and strengthening civil society resilience worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce a 40–60 page research report analyzing alternative digital technologies.
- Conduct extensive literature reviews on civic technologies, digital sovereignty, and platform governance.
- Analyze real-world civic tech solutions, focusing on Global South innovations.
- Identify gaps in local hosting capacity, funding models, and regional coordination.
- Deliver research mapping brief, draft report, and final publication-ready report.
- Collaborate with CIVICUS and partners for stakeholder engagement.
Requirements
- Advanced degree in technology policy, international development, political science, media, or related fields.
- Proven experience in digital research, civic technology, policy analysis, and civil society work.
- Knowledge of open-source tools, digital infrastructure systems, platform governance, and data ethics.
- Strong analytical and writing skills.
- Ability to produce high-quality research reports in multicultural contexts.
