Overview
Save the Children International is seeking a dynamic and motivated Innovation Intern for a three-month opportunity offering hands-on exposure to innovation strategy, digital transformation, and impact-driven problem solving within a leading child-focused organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the design and launch of an open innovation challenge.
- Identify high-potential external solutions aligned with organisational priorities.
- Research innovation funders, decision-makers, and funding trends.
- Map funding priorities and recent investments.
- Identify strategic entry points for engagement.
- Conduct structured desk research to identify 50+ promising innovations.
- Produce concise assessment summaries.
- Develop a shortlist of high-potential solutions to inform decision-making.
- Assist in designing and rolling out the internal capability-building initiative "Innovation Astronaut Program".
- Develop a weekly innovation trends newsletter highlighting tools, developments, and opportunities.
- Design an automated monthly funding email system.
- Enhance an existing AI Funding Opportunity Bot, improving deadline tracking, relevance scoring, and expanded data sources.
- Provide flexible assistance on additional innovation priorities as required.

Research and Analysis
- Strong desk research and synthesis skills.
- Ability to evaluate innovations and funding opportunities.
- Clear summarisation of complex information.
Communication
- Concise and structured writing ability.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Capacity to present ideas clearly to internal stakeholders.
Digital and AI Literacy
- Comfortable using digital collaboration tools.
- Familiarity with AI-enabled tools for automation, research, or summarisation (or strong willingness to learn).
Project Management
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Basic planning and coordination capabilities.
Education and Qualifications
Essential:
- Recently completed undergraduate degree in a relevant field, such as: Innovation, Design, or Business; Data, Information Systems, or Analytical disciplines; International Development, Public Policy, or Social Sciences.
- Equivalent practical experience or demonstrated capability will also be considered.
Desirable:
- Participation in hackathons, case competitions, or personal innovation projects.
- Exposure to design thinking frameworks.
- Experience with experimentation or prototyping.
- Cross-functional project experience.
- Involvement with start-ups, incubators, or entrepreneurship initiatives.
