Overview
The Centre for Effective Altruism (CEA) is seeking a leader to manage the Long-Term Future Fund (LTFF), focusing on strategic funding for existential risks, transformative AI, and global catastrophic threats. This senior management role offers significant autonomy to shape fund strategy, build a team, and establish the fund as a leading resource.
Key Responsibilities
- Grantmaking: Evaluate grants, assess theories of change, maintain transparency, source applications, and improve processes.
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement LTFF's strategic vision, represent the fund, identify emerging opportunities, and adapt strategies.
- Team Building: Recruit, develop, and manage grantmakers and analysts, fostering a culture of evaluation and honesty.
- Fundraising: Expand the donor base, cultivate relationships with major donors and institutions, and communicate fund impact.
- Ecosystem Development: Collaborate with other funders, support grantees, and contribute to community discussions on funding and strategy.
Requirements
- Deep familiarity with AI safety and/or transformative AI implications.
- Alignment with Effective Altruism (EA) principles.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to lead new strategic directions.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for stakeholder engagement.
- Grantmaking experience or similar judgment roles in resource allocation.
- Project management and team-building capabilities.
- Desirable: Existing networks in the AI ecosystem, technical/research background, or experience in funder/policy roles.
Benefits
Competitive compensation varies by location (e.g., US: $157,435 total package; UK: £94,711 total package). Additional benefits include private insurance, flexible hours, professional development, mental health support, extended parental leave, ergonomic equipment, and paid vacation. US-based Director level total compensation: $186,665. UK-based Director level total compensation: £142,500.
