Overview

This program offers the Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grants (DDRIG), designed to support doctoral candidates conducting advanced research in political science. Funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), this initiative aims to enhance understanding of citizenship, governance, politics, and public policy.

Eligibility

The APSA DDRIG program is open to graduate students enrolled in accredited doctoral programs at U.S.-based universities. Applicants must:

Be enrolled in a doctoral degree-granting university.
Be studying at a university accredited in the United States and physically located in the United States.
Have completed all preliminary doctoral requirements, including:
- Comprehensive exams
- Dissertation prospectus defense
Be conducting empirical dissertation research related to citizenship, government, or politics.
Be sponsored by their dissertation adviser.

International students are also eligible to apply, provided they are enrolled at a qualifying U.S.-based university.
