    CIVICUS is looking for a Communications and Network Engagement Intern to join their global communications team!

    Job Title: Communications and Network Engagement Intern
    Cluster: Communications
    Location: Remote (CIVICUS encourages applications from the Global South)
    Contract Type: 6 Months
    Salary: USD 1,200 per month (Stipend)
    Reports to: Communication Officer
    Direct Reports: N/A

    Role Overview

    The Communications and Network Engagement Intern plays a vital role in supporting CIVICUS’ global engagement across multiple digital platforms. This position blends creativity, analytical thinking, and relationship-building skills to help mobilise a stronger civil society.

    The intern will contribute to CIVICUS’ mission by:

    • Building network engagement
    • Developing creative digital content
    • Networking with communicators across sectors for civic action

    This internship offers a dynamic, remote, and globally connected experience for anyone passionate about digital communications, civic action, and meaningful social impact.


    Key Responsibilities

    Support Narratives Network

    • Assist in the development and packaging of communications outputs that highlight the work and impact of CIVICUS’ global narrative builder network.
    • Engage with CIVICUS members and partners to gather content, including quotations, reflections, and key takeaways from events and engagements.

    • Support the internal learning process and public dissemination of content.
    • Provide administrative support for Narratives Network-related events, ensuring smooth operations and effective coordination.

    Develop Creative Social Media Content

    • Assist in producing digital content, including written stories, graphics, and video content for web and social media channels.
    • Explore novel content types and conduct platform testing to enhance digital engagement across multiple channels.

    • Support the creation of animated video content using CIVICUS avatars to increase audience engagement.
    • Contribute to strategies, plans, and events to engage the wider CIVICUS membership base and strengthen public communications.

    Person Specification

    Education, Language & Qualifications

    • A degree or equivalent in communications, marketing, social media, creative content development, or a related field.
    • Commitment to positive change and experience working with civil society, citizen activists, non-profits, charitable networks, or media organisations.
    • Excellent English language skills; proficiency in a major Global South language is beneficial.

    Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience

    • Strong interest in community and network engagement, and designing targeted, compelling content.
    • Passion for communicating for civic action, civil society, and positive social change.
    • Experience in using social media platforms and creating content with analytics tracking on LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.

    Desirable Knowledge, Skills & Experience

    • Experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe CS, DaVinci Resolve, Canva, Google Analytics, or similar tools.
    • Familiarity with using and administering chat messengers and collaborative platforms.

    • Prior experience working with civil society organisations, social enterprises, or the human rights sector is an advantage.
    • Linguistic proficiency in major Global South language(s) is an additional asset.
