Effective Altruism Nigeria (EA Nigeria) is accepting rolling applications for its Introductory Fellowship on Effective Altruism, an eight-week online programme designed to help participants explore evidence-based approaches to creating meaningful social impact.
The fellowship is open to individuals interested in learning how to maximize their positive contribution to society through thoughtful decision-making, critical thinking and discussions on some of the world’s most pressing challenges.
The next cohort is scheduled to run between August and October 2026, with applicants notified of their application status approximately 10 working days before the programme begins.
The Introductory Fellowship provides participants with an opportunity to learn the core principles of Effective Altruism while engaging with a supportive learning community.
Throughout the eight-week programme, fellows will:
• Participate in weekly discussion sessions.
• Read carefully selected materials on Effective Altruism.
• Explore practical approaches to improving the world.
• Engage with experienced Effective Altruism community facilitators.
• Build connections with other participants.
• Participate in question-and-answer sessions with professionals.
Each discussion group consists of approximately three to five participants led by an experienced facilitator, creating an interactive and collaborative learning environment.
The fellowship is conducted entirely online using Google Meet, making it accessible to participants regardless of location.
The programme introduces participants to key concepts that underpin Effective Altruism and evidence-based decision-making.
Topics explored during the fellowship include:
• Effective approaches to solving global challenges.
• Cause prioritisation.
• Evidence-based philanthropy.
• Maximising social impact.
• Critical thinking and ethical decision-making.
• Career choices for positive impact.
Weekly readings are complemented by group discussions that encourage participants to reflect on ideas, ask questions and engage with different perspectives.
The fellowship runs for eight weeks, with participants expected to dedicate approximately three to five hours per week.
The weekly commitment includes:
• Reading assigned learning materials.
• Participating in online discussion sessions.
• Engaging with facilitators and fellow participants.
• Attending optional networking and question-and-answer events.
Applicants should ensure they have access to a computer, tablet or smartphone with a reliable internet connection to participate fully in the online programme.
The fellowship welcomes applications from individuals who are curious about Effective Altruism and interested in learning how to make a greater positive impact through their careers, research, volunteering or community engagement.
Previous experience with Effective Altruism is not required.

• Personal learning goals for the fellowship.
Applicants will also watch a short introductory presentation on cause prioritisation, one of the central concepts of Effective Altruism, before responding to reflection questions.
The application includes discussion prompts covering:
• Key lessons from the presentation.
• The importance of addressing neglected problems.
• Personal reflections on how the presentation influenced their thinking.
Candidates will also indicate their preferred weekly discussion session based on the available schedule.
Unlike programmes with a single annual deadline, the Effective Altruism Nigeria Introductory Fellowship accepts applications on a rolling basis.
Applicants are encouraged to submit their applications early to maximise their chances of joining the next available cohort.
Successful applicants will receive communication approximately 10 working days before the start of their assigned cohort.
