Beyond Climate Collaborative (BCC) has officially opened applications for the inaugural European Climate Mobility Justice Academy (ECMJA) 2026, a four-week online learning program designed to deepen understanding of climate-related mobility, displacement, migration, and climate justice within the European context.
Scheduled to run from August 17 to September 11, 2026, the academy will bring together students, researchers, practitioners, activists, and changemakers from around the world to explore the growing intersections between climate change, migration, policy, and social justice.
The program is being delivered in partnership with Climate Outreach, Climate and Migration Coalition, and Youth and Environment Europe.
As climate change continues to intensify across Europe, the region has experienced unprecedented heatwaves, floods, wildfires, and environmental disasters in recent years. According to data referenced by the academy, Europe and Central Asia recorded approximately 866,000 disaster-related internal displacements by the end of 2023.
Despite these developments, climate mobility remains an underexplored area within European policy, research, and public discourse. The ECMJA seeks to address this gap by providing participants with critical insights into climate-related migration, displacement, immobility, adaptation, and protection.
The academy adopts a justice-centered and decolonial approach that challenges dominant narratives surrounding migration and displacement while examining Europe’s historical and contemporary role in shaping climate vulnerabilities and migration systems.
The ECMJA curriculum combines expert lectures, facilitated discussions, interactive workshops, case studies, and self-reflection exercises.
Participants will engage in:
All sessions will be conducted online through Zoom, making the program accessible to participants worldwide.
