The State Democracy Project is currently hiring a full-time Executive Director to lead its mission of strengthening democratic participation and supporting grassroots initiatives across the United States. This senior leadership opportunity is ideal for experienced nonprofit professionals who are passionate about social justice, civic engagement, and empowering historically marginalized communities.

Key Responsibilities

Overseeing daily operations
Driving long-term strategic growth
Ensuring legal and financial compliance
Managing partnerships and external relations
Representing the organization publicly
Providing guidance to sponsored projects on fundraising and development
Leading, coaching, and supporting staff and consultants
Fostering a culture of collaboration, respect, and accountability

Requirements

Minimum 10 years of senior leadership experience in nonprofit organizations
Strong understanding of fiscal sponsorship models
Experience working with Boards of Directors
Proven ability to manage complex organizations and environments
Demonstrated commitment to social justice and marginalized communities
Excellent communication and public speaking abilities
Experience in fundraising and donor engagement
Strong risk management and compliance knowledge

Benefits

Salary Range: $130,000 – $150,000 annually
