    What the Bursary Covers

    Eligible Fields of Study

    The bursary is open to students studying full-time towards qualifications in the following fields:

    • Statistics

    Applications are open to South African citizens studying at registered higher education institutions. Current matric learners and students taking a gap year after matric are also eligible to apply.

    However, the programme does not support TVET qualifications, diplomas, distance learning programmes, or postgraduate master’s and doctoral studies.

    Academic Requirements

    Applicants must meet the following academic criteria:

    • Grade 12 learners must have achieved a Bachelor’s Pass with a minimum average of 65%
    • Current university students must maintain an average of at least 65%

    Capitec explained that bursary funding is renewable annually based on academic performance, student engagement, and available funding.

    The bursary also includes a work-back obligation, meaning successful recipients may be required to work for Capitec for a period equivalent to the years of funding received.

    Applications for the Capitec External Bursary Programme close on 12 August 2026 at 2pm.
