    Job Description

    The EUI Visit 2026 under the European University Institute Widening Europe Programme is now open for PhD researchers from eligible widening countries. This EUI Visit provides a funded opportunity to spend the Autumn term of the 2026–2027 academic year at one of Europe’s leading postgraduate institutions. Through the EUI Visit 2026, selected doctoral researchers will join a dynamic academic environment, collaborate with distinguished faculty, and advance their PhD research in Florence, Italy.

    The call was announced on 17 February 2026 as part of the Widening Programme’s continued efforts to strengthen research excellence and internationalisation across Europe.

     

    About the EUI Visit Programme

    The EUI Visit is part of the EUI Widening Europe Programme, an initiative designed to support doctoral researchers from targeted Widening countries by providing access to high-level academic collaboration and research infrastructure.

    The programme aims to:

    •Strengthen research capacity in widening countries

    •Promote academic collaboration across Europe

    •Improve competitiveness and research quality

    •Foster a more cohesive European Higher Education and Research Area

    Selected participants will conduct research at the European University Institute (EUI), located in Florence, Italy — a globally recognized hub for advanced research in the social sciences and humanities.

     

    Departments Available Under the EUI Visit 2026

    PhD researchers selected for the EUI Visit 2026 will join one of the following departments:

    •Department of Political and Social Sciences

    •Department of History

    •Department of Law

    During their stay, visiting researchers will:

    •Advance their doctoral dissertation research

    Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia.

    Eligible Non-EU Countries:

    Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo*, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Ukraine.

    Applicants must ensure their doctoral research aligns with the academic expertise of the department they are applying to.

    Deadlines vary depending on the department:

    •Department of Political and Social Sciences: 31 March 2026

    •Department of History: 30 April 2026

    •Department of Law: 1 May 2026
