    Job Description

    The Asia Foundation – Margaret F. Williams Memorial Fellowship

    The Asia Foundation is happy to advise that applications are now open for the 2026 Margaret F. Williams Memorial Fellowship in Asian Art.

    Program Title: Margaret F. Williams Memorial Fellowship in Asian Art 2026
    Location: San Francisco, USA (Residency at Asian Art Museum)
    Application Deadline: March 24, 2026
    Fellowship Period: June 1 – August 31, 2026

    In partnership with the Asian Art Museum and The Asia Foundation, this fellowship supports emerging curators interested in exploring community building as a curatorial, artistic, and institutional practice. The program aims to foster exchange, deepen curatorial practice, and connect past and present through Asian and Asian American art.

    Selected fellows will participate in a three-month residency at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, engaging with a world-renowned collection and contributing to innovative, community-centered curatorial approaches.


    Fellowship Benefits

    • Housing and living allowance during the residency
    • $7,500 stipend for a self-designed study tour to enhance research and professional growth

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop and explore models of community-centered curatorial practice
    • Revisit and reimagine previous exhibitions to foster community connection and relevance
    • Produce reflective outputs such as publications, public programs, or online platforms
    • Engage in cross-cultural and transnational dialogues through art and community engagement

    Eligibility Criteria

    • Applicants from within or outside of institutional museum settings
    • Demonstrated capacity for connecting ideas, people, and artworks
    • Experience in community-based, participatory, or socially engaged projects

    • Leadership, initiative, and collaboration skills
    • Fully fluent in English
    • Able to commit to the three-month residency in San Francisco during summer 2026
    • Based in the United States, Asia, or the Pacific Islands
