Host Institution Arrangements

While a confirmed host affiliation is not required when submitting the Fulbright application, successful candidates must obtain confirmation from their U.S. institution before receiving their Fulbright grant.

Because universities have different timelines for accepting visiting scholars, applicants are encouraged to begin discussions with potential hosts well in advance.

The 2027–2028 competition follows the schedule below:

• 20 July 2026 – Applications open
• 2 November 2026 (5:00 PM GMT) – Application deadline
• November 2026 – January 2027 – Initial review of applications
• Early to mid-February 2027 – Applicants notified of shortlist status and interviews
• March 2027 – Interview outcomes announced
• March to April 2027 – Fulbright Finalists’ Workshop
• March to July 2027 – Fulbright and J-1 visa processing
• Late June to July 2027 – Pre-departure orientation
• From August 2027 – Scholars begin their exchange in the United States
