Fellowship Benefits

Selected fellows will receive:

• Monthly funding of approximately EUR 1,050 (paid in South African Rand up to ZAR 17,000 per month)

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the fellowship, applicants must meet specific academic and language requirements.

Academic Requirements

For PhD Fellowship Applicants:

• Must possess a Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related discipline.
• Must demonstrate strong academic performance.
• Must have completed a high-quality dissertation or thesis.

For Postdoctoral Fellowship Applicants:

• Must possess a PhD in a relevant field.
• Must demonstrate a strong research background and publication potential.

English Language Requirements

Applicants whose previous education was not conducted in English may be required to provide evidence of English proficiency through:

• TOEFL score of at least 570 (paper-based) or 230 (computer-based), or
• IELTS overall band score of 7.0 with no section below 6.0

Applicants who studied in English are generally exempt from this requirement.

Applicants are required to prepare a detailed research proposal outlining:

2. Research objectives and questions.
3. Proposed methodology.
4. Expected outcomes and impact.
5. Alignment with the expertise of HPI supervisors.

Candidates may indicate up to three potential supervisors during the application process.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews and required to arrange three academic reference letters.
