The Communication and Engagement (C&E) unit manages the translation and dissemination of HSRC research to diverse audiences both locally and internationally.

This includes overseeing publications, digital and media platforms, and public engagement activities to promote accessible, consistent, and impactful communication.

The successful candidates will be responsible for proofreading the HSRC Review, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and consistency across all content.

Key Responsibilities

• Proofreading the final PDF version of the HSRC Review (approximately 10,000–25,000 words)
• Correcting spelling, grammar, punctuation, and typographical errors
• Identifying inconsistencies in language, formatting, and layout
• Checking for missing or truncated text resulting from layout processes

• Proofreading captions, headlines, pull quotes, and graphic text
• Ensuring accuracy and consistency across all visible elements
• Maintaining high attention to detail throughout the publication process

Minimum Requirements

• Proven proofreading experience (at least 2 years)
• Matric with English Home Language
• Ability to proofread at first-language English proficiency (assessment required)

• Experience working with PDF-based content
• Preferably with publishing, journalism, or magazine subediting background
• Advantageous: experience with academic or technical content
