Overview

This program offers competitive internships at the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC), providing hands-on experience for undergraduate and graduate students, recent graduates, and career changers.

Eligibility

• Undergraduate students who have completed at least one year of study
• Graduate students
• Recent graduates (within two years of graduation)
• Career changers enrolled in degree programs
• International students currently within the continental United States
• Individuals outside formal education programs who can demonstrate clear educational or career benefits

Please note: Previous interns or fellows at NMAAHC are not eligible to apply again.

How to Apply

Applicants must apply through the Smithsonian Online Academic Appointment System (SOLAA) and submit a complete application, which includes:

• Completed internship application
• Selection of up to two internship opportunities
• Résumé or CV
• Academic transcripts (unofficial transcripts accepted)
• Personal essay outlining learning objectives, career goals, and internship interests
• Two letters of recommendation

Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Deadline

• Spring Internships (January–April): Application Deadline: October 15
• Summer Internships (June–August): Application Deadline: February 15
• Fall Internships (September–December): Application Deadline: June 15
