Overview

The taz Panter Foundation, affiliated with the independent German newspaper taz, invites applications for its 2026 journalism training and networking programme titled “Global Powers, Local Realities – Africa’s Future Amid Global Power Plays and the Fight for Self-Rule.” This initiative is designed to bring together journalists from across Africa to explore the intersection of global geopolitics and local realities.

Eligibility

The programme is open to journalists from 16 African countries, which include:

• Botswana
• Cameroon
• Ethiopia
• The Gambia
• Lesotho
• Liberia
• Madagascar
• Malawi
• Mauritania
• Mozambique
• Nigeria
• Sudan
• Tanzania
• Uganda
• Zambia
• Zimbabwe

Applicants must be active journalists working in print, television, radio, or online media, demonstrate strong interest in global affairs and African development, possess fluency in English, and hold a valid passport. Women journalists are particularly encouraged to apply.

Benefits

Selected journalists will receive:

• Full coverage of travel expenses to Berlin and Brussels
• Accommodation during the in-person phase
