    Young professionals across Southeast and South Asia have an exciting opportunity to strengthen their leadership skills and expand their international networks through the prestigious IATSS Forum Leadership Development Program in Japan.

    The International Association of Traffic and Safety Sciences (IATSS) has officially announced that applications for its 2027 Leadership Development Program will be open from 1 June to 30 September 2026.

    The highly regarded program brings together emerging leaders from diverse professional backgrounds for an intensive eight-week residential learning experience in Japan.

    Designed to cultivate collaborative leadership and promote sustainable development across Asia, the program provides participants with the opportunity to engage in cross-cultural dialogue, leadership training, and practical learning experiences.

    About the IATSS Forum Leadership Development Program

    The IATSS Forum is a leadership development initiative established by the International Association of Traffic and Safety Sciences in Japan. The program aims to nurture future leaders capable of addressing social, economic, and environmental challenges through collaborative and inclusive leadership approaches.

    Participants from various sectors, including government, business, academia, civil society, and entrepreneurship, come together to exchange ideas, develop leadership competencies, and build lifelong professional networks.

    The 2027 program will be conducted in two separate sessions:

    • 71st IATSS Forum: May to July 2027 (8 weeks)
    • 72nd IATSS Forum: September to November 2027 (8 weeks)

    Applicants should note that assignment to a specific session is determined by the organizers, and participants cannot choose their preferred program period.

    Who Can Apply?

    The IATSS Forum is open to young professionals from selected Asian countries. Eligible applicants must hold citizenship in one of the following countries:

    • Cambodia
    • India
    • Indonesia
    • Laos
    • Malaysia
    • Myanmar
    • Philippines
    • Singapore
    • Thailand
    • Vietnam

    Applicants must also meet the following eligibility requirements:

    • Be 35 years old or younger by the application closing date.
    • Be currently employed full-time in a professional field.
    • Self-employed professionals and freelancers are also eligible.
    • Have at least two years of full-time professional work experience.
    • Demonstrate sufficient English language proficiency.
    • Possess the cultural adaptability necessary for international learning environments.
    • Be physically and mentally capable of participating fully in all program activities without an accompanying person.

    The program seeks motivated individuals with demonstrated leadership potential and a commitment to driving positive change within their communities and countries.

    Application Process

    Applications are accepted once annually through the official online application system.

    The application period for the 2027 intake runs from:

    1 June 2026 to 30 September 2026

    Applicants must submit all required documents through the designated online application portal.

    Required Application Documents

    Candidates are required to prepare and upload the following documents:

    1. Completed Application Form.
    2. Basic Question Form.
    3. Essay responding to the assigned topic.
    4. Recommendation Letter from a direct supervisor using the official recommendation template.
    5. English language proficiency certificate (if available), such as TOEFL or TOEIC.

    All documents must be submitted in English.

    Important Application Guidelines

    Applicants should carefully review the official application booklet before preparing their submissions.

    Key requirements include:

    • Handwritten forms will not be accepted.
    • Documents must be typed and submitted electronically.
    • Acronyms must be written in full when first introduced.
    • Applications submitted via email will not be accepted.
    • Applicants are advised not to submit multiple applications.

    The IATSS Forum has also issued a strict warning regarding artificial intelligence use during the application process.

    Any Basic Question Form or Essay found to contain AI-generated content will result in immediate disqualification from the selection process.

    Selection Process

    The selection process consists of two stages:

    • Document screening.
    • Interview assessment for shortlisted candidates.

    Only applicants who successfully pass the document review stage will be invited to participate in interviews. Interview schedules vary by country and shortlisted candidates will be contacted directly by the organizers.
