    Overview

    The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at Makerere University offers 1,000 fully-funded scholarships to academically talented young men and women from Sub-Saharan Africa facing financial hardship, covering both undergraduate and graduate levels for the academic year 2026/2027.

    Eligibility

    Applicants must belong to one of the following categories: Ugandan nationals, refugees, students with disabilities, internally displaced young people, or international students and fulfill specific conditions such as:

    • Must apply for admission to Makerere University under the private sponsorship scheme.
    • Complete secondary education in an African country or hold an equivalent qualification.
    • Experience financial hardship.
    • Not hold any other scholarship.
    • Not have completed any undergraduate degree.
    • Demonstrate leadership potential and/or community service.
    • Be 28 years old or younger (32 for refugees or students with disabilities) at the application deadline.

    Benefits

    The scholarships will provide support for educational expenses and empower 1,000 young Africans over a ten-year period.
