Overview
The humanitarian organization CARE International is currently recruiting a Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Officer for its PEACE-RISE Project in Mandera, Kenya. This is a unique opportunity for experienced professionals in monitoring and evaluation to contribute to climate resilience, peacebuilding, and community development in a complex cross-border region.
Key Responsibilities
- Designing the MEAL framework, results framework, and indicators
- Supporting baseline studies, needs assessments, and contextual analysis
- Developing data collection tools and reporting templates
- Establishing data management systems and beneficiary databases
- Integrating gender-responsive and conflict-sensitive approaches
- Routine monitoring of project activities
- Data verification and quality assurance
- Maintaining organized project databases
- Supporting donor and internal reporting processes
- Establishing feedback and complaints mechanisms
- Facilitating inclusive community consultations
- Tracking and responding to community feedback
- Documenting lessons learned and best practices
- Facilitating reflection and learning sessions
- Supporting knowledge sharing within CARE
- Participation in coordination meetings, field missions, and other MEAL-related tasks as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in monitoring and evaluation, statistics, social sciences, or related field
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in M&E/MEAL roles
- Strong understanding of MEAL systems design and implementation
- Experience with baseline studies, research, and participatory approaches
- Proficiency in digital data tools such as ODK, Kobo, CommCare, or SurveyCTO
- Data analysis, reporting, and dashboard development skills
- Experience with data quality assessments (DQAs)
- Knowledge of gender equality and social inclusion approaches
- Experience in climate resilience, peacebuilding, or natural resource management is an advantage
- Familiarity with working in ASAL (Arid and Semi-Arid Lands) regions is a plus
