About the Critical Voices Fellowship 2026/27

About the Community Manager Role

MiCT is seeking an experienced Community Manager to support fellowship implementation for journalists from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and neighbouring countries.

The successful consultant will work up to 18 days per month, serving as the primary contact for fellows throughout the programme.

The role combines programme coordination, stakeholder engagement, community management, and operational support to ensure fellows receive the resources and assistance needed during the fellowship.

Key Responsibilities

The Community Manager will undertake a range of responsibilities, including:

• Coordinating the onboarding process for newly selected fellows.
• Conducting participant needs and interest assessments.
• Introducing exiled fellows to their host-country environments.
• Identifying suitable mentors, experts, and project partners.
• Establishing and moderating fellowship social media and communication platforms.
• Serving as the primary contact for fellows regarding programme activities, finance, and support services.
• Supporting community development for both exiled and in-country fellows.
• Coordinating journalism production activities undertaken during the fellowship.
• Maintaining close collaboration with local partners inside and outside the region.
• Participating in regular meetings with fellows and MiCT headquarters in Berlin.

The role requires strong organisational skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with journalists operating in complex environments.

Required Qualifications

Applicants should demonstrate experience supporting journalists and media initiatives in conflict or crisis settings.

Essential qualifications include:

• Experience working with journalists in crisis or conflict environments.
• Strong understanding of the media landscape in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and neighbouring countries.
• Fluency in English and at least one of the following languages:
  • Urdu.
  • Dari.
  • Pashto.
• Experience communicating effectively under stressful conditions.
• Understanding of issues related to exile journalism, media freedom, and non-discriminatory development communication.
• Strong teamwork, adaptability, and interpersonal skills.

Candidates with regional expertise and established networks within media and civil society sectors will be particularly well positioned for the role.

Work Location and Contract Details

MiCT welcomes applications from qualified professionals worldwide.

The preferred location is Pakistan, although remote applicants are encouraged to apply.
