Artificial Intelligence is transforming nearly every aspect of modern life—from education and work to communication and relationships. While AI presents exciting opportunities, it also raises important questions about loneliness, digital well-being, and the future of human connection. To ensure young people are not just passive users of technology but active architects of a more connected future, The Rithm Project has opened applications for its Rithm Fellowship 2026–2027.

This paid fellowship is designed for five exceptional young leaders aged 18 to 22 who are passionate about shaping conversations around AI, technology, mental health, education, and human relationships. Fellows will receive a USD $2,000 stipend, work alongside researchers and innovators, contribute to national conversations, and help influence how society approaches human connection in the age of artificial intelligence.

About the Rithm Fellowship

The Rithm Fellowship is a youth leadership programme where participants play an active role in shaping The Rithm Project’s work. Rather than simply attending workshops, fellows become trusted collaborators whose perspectives help guide research, influence organizational strategy, and shape products designed for young people.

The fellowship intentionally brings together a diverse cohort of five individuals from different backgrounds, experiences, and geographic locations. The goal is to create a community where varied lived experiences contribute to richer conversations about AI, connection, and the future.

The fellowship runs from September 2026 through May 2027, combining leadership development, collaborative project work, public engagement, and opportunities to represent youth voices in national conversations.

Fellowship Benefits

• USD $2,000 stipend for participation.

What Fellows Will Do

The fellowship is divided into two primary areas of responsibility.

1. Youth Leadership and Public Representation (Approximately 60%)

Fellows will:

• Represent youth perspectives during internal strategy discussions.
• Participate in conferences, workshops, and public events.
• Engage with educators, researchers, policymakers, funders, and mental health professionals.
• Facilitate discussions that encourage diverse viewpoints.
• Travel independently within the United States for selected fellowship activities.

2. Research and Project Contributions (Approximately 40%)

Participants will also:

• Contribute to youth-focused research.
• Pilot educational resources and digital tools.
• Help shape The Rithm Project’s products and initiatives.
• Share lived experiences that inform future programmes.
• Collaborate on projects addressing AI, belonging, and social connection.
• Develop practical ideas that can influence future systems and policies.

Who Is the Fellowship Looking For?

The Rithm Project is seeking young people who are thoughtful, curious, and willing to engage in meaningful conversations about technology and society.

Ideal candidates are individuals who:

• Have lived experiences or insights related to AI and human connection.
• Care deeply about strengthening communities and relationships.
• Are confident sharing ideas while remaining open to different perspectives.
• Possess empathy and emotional intelligence.
• Enjoy storytelling and communicating complex ideas in accessible ways.
• Demonstrate initiative and a willingness to contribute to collaborative projects.
• Have a growth mindset and are eager to learn from feedback.
• Can think critically while translating ideas into practical action.

Time Commitment

The fellowship is intentionally designed to fit alongside academic or professional commitments.

Participants should expect to dedicate:

• Approximately 7–10 hours per month.
• Additional time for occasional travel and public events.

Successful applicants must be available for the following mandatory in-person events in Denver, Colorado:

• October 16–18, 2026 – Fellowship Kickoff.
• May 10–13, 2027 – Human Connection and AI Summit.
