    About the Fellowship

    Established in 1996, the Rosalynn Carter Fellowship supports journalists from the U.S., Ireland, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates to report on mental health topics.

    The Ireland program, launched in partnership with Shine and The Carter Center in 2023, offers Irish media professionals the chance to develop a funded mental health project, join an international community, and enhance their reporting skills on mental health issues.

    The fellowship aims to:

    • Increase accurate and effective reporting on mental health
    • Equip journalists with tools for high-quality, compassionate coverage
    • Develop a diverse cohort of informed reporters capable of covering mental health across all media platforms

    Eligibility Criteria

    • Minimum three years’ professional experience in journalism or media (excluding student, blogging, PR, or academic publishing)
    • Citizens or legal residents of the Republic of Ireland
    • Ability to provide a Letter of Commitment from a media outlet with an Irish audience
    • Eligibility to travel to the U.S. for training sessions (scheduled for September 14-17, 2026) at The Carter Center, with costs covered by the fellowship
