SASUF-NRF Seed Grants @NRF Seed Grants 2026–2028: Advancing Global Research Collaboration Between South Africa and Sweden

Overview

For researchers seeking to engage in impactful international collaboration, the SASUF-NRF Seed Grants present a significant opportunity to support joint research initiatives between South African and Swedish institutions.

Eligibility

To qualify, proposals must be submitted by a multi-institutional consortium, including:

• At least two South African universities
• At least two Swedish universities
• At least one industry partner, NGO, or organization

Each proposal must include one Principal Investigator from South Africa and one from Sweden, both holding a PhD.

Benefits

Each selected project will receive funding for a maximum of two years, starting from 1 August 2026. Funding includes:

• Up to 100,000 SEK (Swedish portion)
• Up to 160,000 ZAR (South African portion)

A maximum of 20 projects will be funded.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted separately in both countries:

• The South African PI applies via the NRF Connect system
• The Swedish PI submits via email to SASUF

Required documents include:

• CVs of all consortium members
• Institutional support letters
• Partner participation letters
• Detailed project plan and budgets

Incomplete applications will be disqualified.
