The United Nations Climate Technology Centre and Network (UN CTCN) has launched a new Call for Proposals under the Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator (AFCIA), inviting organisations across the Asia-Pacific region to submit innovative climate adaptation projects.
The initiative aims to accelerate locally led climate adaptation solutions by providing technical assistance to organisations developing innovative responses to climate change. Applications are open until 7 October 2026, with up to 10 projects expected to receive support.
While organisations from all eligible Asia-Pacific countries are encouraged to apply, Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) are particularly encouraged to participate.
The AFCIA programme is designed to strengthen climate resilience by supporting organisations that are developing practical, scalable, and innovative adaptation solutions.
Rather than providing direct grant funding, the programme delivers technical assistance that helps organisations strengthen institutional capacity, access specialised expertise, and enhance knowledge exchange.
Selected projects will receive tailored support to pilot innovative climate adaptation initiatives capable of delivering sustainable, locally driven impact.
Under the current regional call, the UN CTCN plans to select up to 10 projects from across the Asia-Pacific region.
Each selected project may receive:
Priority will be given to projects demonstrating strong innovation, long-term sustainability, and the potential to generate meaningful climate adaptation outcomes.
The call is open to organisations located in developing countries that have officially nominated a National Designated Entity (NDE) under the UNFCCC Technology Mechanism.
Eligible applicants include:
Applicants should demonstrate their ability to implement innovative adaptation projects that address local climate challenges while contributing to broader resilience objectives.
The Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator places strong emphasis on supporting locally developed solutions that respond directly to the needs of vulnerable communities.
The programme seeks initiatives capable of:
Projects that combine innovation with practical implementation and long-term sustainability will receive priority consideration during the evaluation process.
Interested organisations are required to carefully review the programme guidance before submitting an application.
Applicants should:
Applications that clearly demonstrate innovation, institutional readiness, and measurable climate adaptation outcomes are expected to be the most competitive.
Prospective applicants should take note of the following timeline:
Early preparation is encouraged to allow sufficient time for reviewing the eligibility requirements and developing a strong proposal.
Through the Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator, the UN Climate Technology Centre and Network continues to support innovative climate solutions that strengthen resilience across developing countries.
By providing technical assistance rather than direct financial grants, the programme enables organisations to access expert knowledge, improve implementation capacity, and accelerate the development of locally driven climate adaptation initiatives capable of addressing the growing impacts of climate change throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
