Job Summary

UNICRI – United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute is seeking a Fellow to support its CBRN and Nuclear Security Unit.

This home-based opportunity offers a chance to contribute to research, training, and international cooperation on preventing the trafficking of CBRN materials and strengthening global CBRN security.

Candidates with a background in law, international security, criminology, social sciences, or related fields are encouraged to apply.

A Master’s degree is required; experience in nuclear security or the UN system is desirable.

Its strategic priorities include developing an integrated CBRN approach, fostering international law enforcement cooperation, and advancing global security standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Collect and analyze data related to CBRN security, focusing on law enforcement operations to thwart RN trafficking attempts.
• Draft and review research reports, training materials, and project documents.
• Assist in developing substantive workshop and training curricula on CBRN security issues.

• Organize training events, regional workshops, and meetings, including missions to partner countries in the Black Sea and Central Asia regions.
• Liaise with stakeholders involved in project activities and contribute to ongoing research and analysis.
• Support projects such as the CONTACT Programme, Threat assessment initiatives, and the THEMIS project, enhancing regional cooperation and capacity building.

Qualifications and Skills

• Advanced University Degree (Master’s or equivalent) in law, international security, criminology, social sciences, or related fields.
• First-level university degree with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a Master’s degree.

• Experience in research or analysis related to international security, nuclear security, or non-proliferation is desirable.
• Prior experience with the United Nations or similar organizations is advantageous.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
