The University of Manchester has announced the opening of applications for its Equity and Merit Scholarships for international master’s students for the 2027/28 academic year. The scholarship programme aims to support academically outstanding students from the Global South who have the potential to create meaningful social, economic, and environmental change within their communities.
The initiative is designed to empower talented individuals who face financial barriers to accessing world-class postgraduate education. Through the Equity and Merit Scholarships, the University of Manchester seeks to develop future leaders who can contribute to sustainable development at local, national, and regional levels.
The scholarships are available to eligible applicants from Ethiopia, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe who demonstrate strong academic ability, leadership potential, and a commitment to improving their communities.
The Equity and Merit Scholarships provide financial support for students who would otherwise be unable to pursue postgraduate study at the University of Manchester. The programme reflects the university’s commitment to promoting equal opportunities and building a more inclusive and sustainable future.
A total of 30 scholarships will be awarded for the 2027/28 academic year:
• 20 scholarships for full-time, on-campus master’s programmes
• 10 scholarships for part-time, distance-learning master’s programmes
Successful scholars studying on campus in Manchester will receive comprehensive financial support covering:
• Full tuition fees
• Return international airfare
• Living expenses
• Visa-related costs
Students enrolled in eligible online programmes will receive full tuition fee support.
The scholarship programme is specifically aimed at students from selected Global South countries who can demonstrate academic excellence and the potential to contribute to sustainable development.
