African Development Bank (AfDB) Young Professionals Program (YPP) is an excellent opportunity for those seeking an Internship. In fact, this Internship offers real-world exposure to development challenges in Africa.
The African Development Bank (AfDB) invites applications for its Young Professionals Program (YPP), a flagship talent development initiative designed to build a pipeline of future leaders committed to Africa’s development and transformation.
Aligned with the AfDB’s Ten-Year Strategy (2024–2034), the program supports the vision of a prosperous, inclusive, resilient, and integrated Africa. The Bank’s strategic priorities focus on accelerating inclusive green growth and fostering resilient economies, while addressing key areas such as capital mobilization, financial sovereignty, youth empowerment, and infrastructure development.
The Young Professionals Program is a structured initiative aimed at attracting highly qualified and motivated young professionals from member countries. It provides participants with exceptional career opportunities and equips them with the technical and leadership skills required to contribute meaningfully to Africa’s development and make the most of their Internship experience.
The program is built around four key components: rotation, capacity development, mentorship and coaching, and eventual integration into the Bank’s workforce.
Participants undergo a structured rotation across three different complexes within the Bank. The first two years involve mandatory rotational placements, allowing participants to demonstrate applied knowledge, expand their skills, and gain exposure to diverse operational areas. A final transition phase prepares participants for full integration into the Bank.
Capacity development is a core aspect of the program, delivered through the Young Professionals Learning Faculty. This includes onboarding training, access to postgraduate programs with reputable institutions, international certifications, and hands-on learning through real project assignments.
The mentorship and coaching component ensures that participants receive guidance and support from experienced professionals, enabling smooth integration into the Bank’s culture and enhancing career growth. As a result, the Internship not only boosts employability but also strengthens leadership competencies.
Upon successful completion of all program requirements—including rotations, training, and performance evaluations—participants are integrated into the Bank at the PL5 grade level.
The program targets high-potential individuals with strong academic and professional backgrounds, as well as a demonstrated passion for Africa’s growth and transformation. It offers a unique opportunity to work on impactful projects, contribute to policy development, and support sustainable development across the continent. Ultimately, this Internship is an excellent way to launch a meaningful career.
