Overview
The International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) has opened applications for the Mariam K. Chamberlain Dissertation Award 2026, a funding opportunity for first-generation doctoral students conducting research on gender equity and social justice.
Eligibility
- First-generation doctoral student (first in family to pursue a PhD)
- Enrolled in a PhD program at an accredited U.S.-based institution
- Completed all coursework and achieved ABD (All But Dissertation) status
- Confirmed dissertation advisor
- Demonstrated strong academic and research excellence
- PhD not completed before May of the award period
- Open to U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and non-citizens studying at U.S.-based institutions
- Preference to applicants identifying as women, though all eligible candidates are encouraged to apply
Benefits
- Total award of $10,000:
- $8,500 awarded to the PhD student
- $1,500 awarded to the dissertation advisor (shared if multiple advisors are involved)
- Funding for dissertation research, academic expenses, and travel related to research or award presentation
- Opportunity to present research at an ICRW event
