About the Internship Programme

The internship programme has been established to provide talented African students with an opportunity to gain first-hand experience working within the AfCFTA Secretariat while supporting its strategic objectives and corporate functions.

Participants will contribute to ongoing projects while strengthening their analytical, technical, administrative, and professional skills within an international organisation.

The programme also aims to expose young Africans to the work of the AfCFTA Secretariat at an early stage of their careers, preparing them for future opportunities within regional and international institutions.

Internship Responsibilities

Successful interns will support translation and interpretation-related activities, including:

Assisting in translating official working documents between English and French.
Supporting interpretation during meetings, discussions, and official engagements.
Delivering translations accurately and within required deadlines.
Supporting multilingual communication across Secretariat departments.
Assisting with other duties assigned by the Secretariat.

Programme Objectives

The internship seeks to:

Provide students with practical exposure to the work of the AfCFTA Secretariat.
Offer a structured learning platform for qualified university students.
Build professional, analytical, and technical skills in an international setting.
Promote awareness of the African Continental Free Trade Area among African youth.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the following requirements:

Be a national of an African Union Member State.
Be residing in Ghana.
Be a final-year student enrolled full-time at a recognised public or private higher education institution.
Be studying Interpretation and/or Translation.
Be available for a minimum internship period of three months.
Demonstrate proficiency in one African Union official language (English, French, Portuguese, Arabic, Kiswahili, or Spanish).
Fluency in an additional AU official language is considered an advantage.
Possess strong quantitative, analytical, and ICT skills.
Be proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Be able to work effectively in a multicultural and international environment.
Be committed to the values and regulations of the AfCFTA Secretariat.

Internship Conditions

Selected interns should note the following conditions:

The internship is initially offered for six months.
The internship may be renewed once, depending on organisational needs.
